Gentle Bathing Intervention

What is a Gentle Bathing Intervention?

A program of approaches that can help reduce combative behavior (aggression), verbal agitation (screaming, cursing, calling out) and provide a more humane, normalized bathing experiences for residents with dementia and their caregivers.

Purpose of the Program

  • The goal of care is not to complete a bath or shower, but to address cleanliness and odor as part of an ongoing personal hygiene plan for the resident. A variety of strategies will be planned to accomplish this goal in a manner that is as pleasurable as possible and respects the resident's personal autonomy.
