Statement From State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett on New Deputy Chief of Staff

ALBANY, N.Y. (September 12, 2022) – "I'm pleased to introduce Maclain Berhaupt as my new Deputy Chief of Staff as we rebuild the Department of Health. With more than 20 years of managerial expertise in the fields of affordable housing, social services, and community development, Maclain is a decisive and informed leader."

"In this capacity, Ms. Berhaupt will be responsible for assisting me and my senior leadership team with strategic planning, agency management and the Department's response to multiple public health issues affecting all New Yorkers. Prior to joining my team, Maclain served as the Interim Executive Director of the Supportive Housing Network of New York, a national leader in the supportive housing community with more than 200 nonprofits throughout New York State. Ms. Berhaupt worked directly with State and New York City governments to manage the Network's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Berhaupt, a graduate of the State University of New York at Fredonia with a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies in Political Science and Economics, also collaborated with the Department of Health and Medicaid Redesign Team to secure and develop a $75 million supportive housing program serving high-need Medicaid recipients."
