NY State of Health Offers One-on-One Enrollment Assistance at College Campuses on National Youth Enrollment Day

College Students to Learn About Affordable Health Insurance Options

December 15 is the Deadline to Enroll for January 1, 2020 Coverage

ALBANY, N.Y. (December 6, 2019) - NY State of Health, the state's official health plan Marketplace, is partnering with colleges across New York State for the third year to sponsor a series of information and enrollment events for students. Certified in-person assistors will be on campuses on December 6 for "National Youth Enrollment Day," sponsored by the Young Invincibles, through December 13, 2019. Assistors will be available to answer questions, schedule appointments and enroll students into coverage. National Youth Enrollment Day is a national movement to ensure young adults are aware of their health coverage options and understand how to enroll.

"NY State of Health looks forward to working with college students again this year to inform them about their marketplace coverage options as they transition off of their parent's health insurance," said NY State of Health Executive Director Donna Frescatore. "Enrollment assistors will be on campuses to provide students with free, one-on-one help to compare plans, apply for financial assistance to lower costs and choose the right coverage for them."

More than 4.8 million people – nearly 1 in 4 New Yorkers – have enrolled in quality, affordable health insurance coverage through NY State of Health. Nearly 800,000 New Yorkers enrolled in the Essential Plan in 2019, which costs less than other plans but offers the same essential health benefits including free preventive care, diagnostic services and prescription drugs. Almost 40 percent of Essential Plan enrollees are below age 35, which is a higher share than other marketplace programs. For eligible lower-income New Yorkers, the cost of the Essential Plan remains $20 or $0, with low out-of-pocket costs and no annual deductible.

Consumers must enroll or renew by December 15, 2019 for coverage effective January 1, 2020. Open Enrollment for 2019 Qualified Health Plan coverage ends on January 31, 2020. Enrollment in the Essential Plan, Medicaid and Child Health Plus is open all year. Text: HEALTH to 917-905-7422 to learn more
