Media Advisory: New York State Department of Health Announces A Series of Events In Observance of 2019 World AIDS Day

  • What: The New York State Department of Health's AIDS Institute is hosting the 21st Annual World AIDS Day Event on Tuesday, December 3 at the Empire State Plaza, Convention Center

In recognition of World AIDS Day, observed on December 1, the AIDS Institute is hosting this annual event that is free and open to the public. NYS schools are invited to receive youth-focused sexual health information, hear young adult speakers share their personal stories and experience the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker will also recognize individuals for their commitment, contribution and response to improve and promote the health and well-being of all New Yorkers at the Commissioner's Special Recognition Awards beginning Tuesday, December 3 at 2:30 p.m.

Additionally, the public is invited to visit community-based service organization booths and view the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt in the Convention Center beginning Tuesday, December 3 at 9:00am.

The New York State Department of Health's AIDS Institute is hosting the 2019 Ending the Epidemic Summit on Tuesday, December 3 and Wednesday, December 4 with this year's theme Maintaining the Momentum, Expanding the Vision which includes updates on statewide efforts to promote ending the epidemic initiatives. The annual Ending the Epidemic Summit brings stakeholders to one forum where implementation successes are shared and innovative programs, policies and research efforts are presented and discussed.
