NY State of Health Visits College Campuses Across New York State

Graduates, Students Encouraged to Get Covered

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 20, 2017) - As thousands of college students prepare to graduate this spring, NY State of Health, the state’s official health plan Marketplace, is offering this month, a series of enrollment and informational events at approximately 40 campuses across New York State. Certified enrollment assistors will be present throughout the week of April 24-29 to speak with students and soon-to-be graduates about how to get affordable, quality health coverage and enroll in a health plan through the Marketplace. Students will have the opportunity to enroll onsite or make an appointment to enroll later.

“As graduation approaches, students are planning for and looking forward to the future,” said NY State of Health Executive Director Donna Frescatore. “A key part of preparing for post-college life includes securing a good health plan, so you’re covered in the event of a health crisis, accident or injury.”

Details on the colleges participating in the April educational activities with NY State of Health can be found here: http://info.nystateofhealth.ny.gov/events.

According to Enroll America, nearly one in five young adults don’t have health insurance. College graduates and students have choices when it comes to health insurance: stay on their parent’s health plan; buy their own plan; or get coverage through a new job. Young adults can find a variety of health coverage options through NY State of Health.

All health plans offered through NY State of Health cover preventive care, such as routine doctor visits and screenings, at no additional cost. Enrollment in Medicaid, Child Health Plus and the Essential Plan is open all year. And, while 2017 Open Enrollment for Qualified Health Plans ended, graduates and students may be eligible to enroll through a special enrollment period.
