Stakeholders and members of the public have been invited to submit ideas for reducing costs and improving efficiency in New York's Medicaid program through the New York State Department of Health website and at five recently completed regional public hearings.

New York spends more than $53 billion annually to provide health care to more than 4.7 million people. Governor Cuomo has asked the Medicaid Redesign Team to recommend actions to help balance the State's budget and address a $10 billion deficit for the fiscal year that begins April 1, 2011. The Governor's Executive Budget reflects a year-to-year All Funds decrease of $982 million, or 2 percent, in Medicaid spending in 2011-2012.

The Medicaid Redesign Team must report its findings and recommendations to the Governor by March 1. More information is available at http://health.ny.gov/health_care/medicaid/redesign/
