Linda Kleitman Mermelstein, MD, MPH, has worked for the Suffolk County Department of Health Services since 1997. As the Chief Deputy Commissioner and Director of both the Department's Compliance Bureau and the Division of Patient Care Services Clinical Affairs, she is responsible for numerous programs that serve the people of Suffolk County.

Through her clinical oversight of the Cancer Services, Immunization Action, Lead, Prenatal and Family Planning programs and her responsibilities in her past position as Director of Emergency Medical Services, Dr. Mermelstein consistently demonstrates an enduring commitment to the public health of county residents. Since 2003, she has twice served as Acting Commissioner of the Department, during crisis periods of transition.

Dr. Mermelstein continues to apply her strong leadership skills in her additional role as Physician Champion of the Electronic Medical Record. Goals of this project include improving access to care and providing a mechanism for collection of public health related information.
